Helpful Spelling Rules
Rule 1
For most words, just add s, ed, or ing, er or est
example: jump, jumps, jumped, jumping
new, newer, newest

Rule 2
For words ending in silent e, just add s, but drop the final e before adding ed or ing, er or est
example: like, likes, liked, liking
little, littler, littlest

Rule 3
For words ending in one vowel and one consonant, just add s, but double the final consonant before adding ed or ing. er or eat
example: tap, taps, tapped, tapping
tan,tanner, tannest

For words ending in consonant-y, the y is changed to i before adding es or ed. er or est
example: cry, cries, cried
happy, happier, happiest
